Epperson Lagoon, a marvel of modern aquatic engineering, was constructed as part of the Epperson community in Wesley Chapel, Florida. This remarkable feat was completed in 2017, adding a distinctive and recreational centerpiece to the vibrant subdivision. Wesley Chapel, where Epperson Lagoon is located, is a burgeoning community situated in Pasco County, Florida. It’s positioned to the northeast of Tampa, making it a part of the Tampa Bay Area. Tampa, a major city in Florida, is about a 30-minute drive southwest of Wesley Chapel. On the other hand, Orlando, another prominent city in the state, is located approximately 80 miles east of Wesley Chapel, making it roughly an hour and a half drive away. This strategic location places Wesley Chapel in close proximity to both Tampa and Orlando, allowing residents and visitors to easily access the amenities and attractions of these vibrant metropolitan areas. Epperson Lagoon, is a renowned man-made lagoon. Spanning an impressive seven acres, it stands as a testament to modern engineering and design. This sizable aquatic wonder offers a unique recreational experience for visitors of all ages. Epperson Lagoon offers a range of amenities and features designed to enhance the overall experience for visitors. The lagoon features a sandy shore, providing a beach-like atmosphere for sunbathing, building sandcastles, or simply relaxing by the water’s edge, there is adult area with a swim up bar, stages for performers, featuring DJ’s. Restrooms, Lockers, and changing facilities available on-site, but DO bring your own towel. Pack like you would for a beach getaway.  There are concession stands or on-site, but no outside food or water allowed. They have water filling stations on site so bring your water flask.

On a scorching summer day in Florida, with the sun casting a brilliant glow over the Sunshine State, I embarked on an adventure to explore the marvel that is Epperson Lagoon. The idea had been planted by a local I encountered in Madeira Beach, who enthusiastically extolled the virtues of this man-made oasis. Skeptical at first, I found it hard to believe that there existed a pool where one could paddleboard and kayak without the lurking presence of wildlife or any potential dangers. Intrigued, I set out to witness this aquatic wonder for myself.

As I arrived, the sheer size of Epperson Lagoon was immediately striking. Its expanse seemed boundless, stretching out before me like a shimmering azure gem. While technically part of a subdivision, the lagoon welcomed visitors with open arms. Even though the parking lot was bustling with activity, the sheer size of the lagoon ensured that there was ample space for everyone.

With a sense of anticipation, I wasted no time immersing myself in the experience. The water was pleasantly warm, a soothing balm against the heat of the day. I indulged in the thrill of the oversized, inflatable slides, each descent punctuated with laughter and exhilaration. The novelty of it all struck me – these were experiences one might expect in the open waters, yet here I was, enjoying them within the confines of a colossal pool.

Next, I decided to venture into the realm of paddleboarding and kayaking. It was a surreal sensation, maneuvering through the lagoon’s expansive waters, the world around me a tranquil tableau of aquatic beauty. The absence of unpredictable elements, like wildlife or unpredictable currents, offered a rare sense of security and freedom in the water.

One of the standout features of Epperson Lagoon is its awe-inspiring 30-foot slide. This towering water slide promises an exhilarating descent, offering a thrilling experience for adventurers of all ages. The rush of wind and water adds an extra dash of excitement to any visit.

Adding a touch of whimsy to the lagoon’s offerings is the intriguing Gasparilla Island. Nestled within the lagoon’s expansive waters, this island provides a unique twist to the aquatic experience. Its presence sparks curiosity and invites exploration, adding an element of discovery to the already captivating surroundings.

Undoubtedly, one of the most exhilarating moments during my visit was conquering the obstacle course. Although initially intended for children, the allure proved irresistible, drawing me into a realm of playful challenges alongside fellow adventurous adults. Laughter echoed through the air, creating a contagious sense of camaraderie that underlined a key truth: age was no impediment to reveling in the lagoon’s delights.

Moreover, the towers inside the obstacle course held a thrilling surprise. With great anticipation, I ascended to their summits, standing at least 10 feet above the lagoon’s surface. The rush of excitement was palpable as I leapt, plunging into the deep waters below. Here, the lagoon revealed its hidden depths, reaching at least 15 feet. As a safety precaution, life jackets were a mandatory companion, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all visitors. This unexpected adventure added an extra layer of excitement to an already unforgettable day at Epperson Lagoon.

Epperson Lagoon plays host to a vibrant array of special events, creating an atmosphere of entertainment and camaraderie. From engaging trivia nights to spirited karaoke sessions, and even enchanting movie nights, there’s always something exciting happening at this aquatic oasis. For those looking to join in the festivities, ticket passes typically range from 25 to 40 USD, providing access to a world of aquatic entertainment and social interaction

It’s worth noting, however, that Epperson Lagoon, while a paradise for water enthusiasts, offers little respite from the sun. While umbrellas are available, they may be in high demand on particularly busy days. To ensure a comfortable visit, I’d recommend bringing your own shade. Additionally, donning a protective SPF 50 shirt proved to be a wise choice, especially for activities like paddleboarding where prolonged exposure to the sun is inevitable. Another think to consider – they don’t allow outside water. So bringing 24pack wont work here. They have water stations for you to refill and fill your canteen or water bottle. I find that very inconvenient because water from the filling stations was warmer than I would have preferred. Also, there is no pet policy as well.

In retrospect, Epperson Lagoon stands as a must-see destination in the heart of Florida. Its deceptive appearance, resembling a sprawling lake rather than a meticulously designed pool, continues to surprise and delight visitors. The lagoon’s combination of exhilarating activities and tranquil waters makes it a true gem for water enthusiasts of all ages. So, if you find yourself in the vicinity, be sure to experience this aquatic marvel firsthand. For more information, visit their site:
