Sun Bum is a popular brand that specializes in sun protection products, particularly sunscreen and other skincare items designed to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. They offer a range of products catering to various sun protection needs from lotions, sunscreen sticks, sprays, lip balms and after sun care. I have been seeing this brand everywhere, from local giftshops to large retailers and decided to give it a try, so this is my personal opinion and experience with this product.

I live in Florida, the perfect place to put this to a test. So we booked a trip to Edgmont Key from Fort Desoto park in St. Petersburg. We knew this would be open waters with little to no shade and we will spend good 4 hours on the remote most beautiful beach.

I used 70 SPF Sun Bum, pictured below. What caught my eye, that this product is water resistant for almost two hours, means I can apply once and enjoy the rest of my afternoon worry free. In fact, I applied this sunscreen in the ferry parking lot and left it in the car, since we have a limited bag space in the ferry. The sunscreen had a very pleasant fragrance and feel to my skin.

The sun hung relentlessly overhead, casting its brilliance upon the landscape as high noon approached. Feeling its intense rays beat down upon me, I made a conscious decision to employ my trusty sun umbrella—a steadfast shield against the sun’s unrelenting gaze. The delicate canopy unfurled, creating a respite of shade amidst the sun-drenched expanse.

As the minutes ticked by, the combination of my sun umbrella and the strategic positioning of my shaded haven offered a sanctuary from the sun’s scorching embrace. While the sun’s intensity was unwavering, the occasional caress of a gentle ocean breeze brought forth a sense of relief that was as refreshing as it was welcome. This breeze, carrying whispers of the nearby sea, danced across my skin and provided a fleeting yet cherished respite from the heat.

The symphony of sunlight and shade played out against the backdrop of the day’s activities. The sun, an unwavering source of warmth and vitality, was both a friend and a potential foe. Its brilliance illuminated the surroundings, lending a picturesque quality to the scene, while its heat also reminded me of the importance of sun protection.

Underneath the sun umbrella’s protective embrace, I was reminded of the delicate balance between the sun’s nourishing energy and its potential to cause harm. It was a tangible reminder of the power of nature and the importance of mindfulness in the face of its elements. As I basked in the shade of my umbrella, occasionally serenaded by the ocean breeze, I found solace in the dance between light and shadow—a reminder of the beauty that can be found in the contrasts of life.

We spend great four hours on this island, just soaking up the sun and pristine waters. I was a bit worried that I will come back to the shore looking like a lobster, which sometimes happens quite often in Florida. when we returned, I was amazed that I had no sunburn at all. In fact it didn’t even looked like I spend any time in the sun at all. This was a welcoming sight and definitely one product a must have for Florida.

Sun protection is of paramount importance due to the potentially harmful effects of prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. These rays can lead to various short-term and long-term health concerns, making it crucial to take preventive measures to safeguard your skin and overall well-being.

Preventing Skin Damage: The sun emits two types of UV rays—UVA and UVB—both of which can cause damage to the skin. UVB rays are responsible for causing sunburn, while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin, leading to premature aging and other skin concerns. Regular sun exposure without protection can result in a range of skin problems, from fine lines and wrinkles to dark spots and uneven pigmentation.

Reducing Skin Cancer Risk: Prolonged and unprotected sun exposure is a major risk factor for skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. UV rays can damage the DNA in skin cells, increasing the likelihood of abnormal cell growth that can lead to cancer. By using sun protection, you significantly lower your risk of developing skin cancer, promoting your long-term health.

Preserving Skin Health: Sun protection is essential for maintaining the health and vitality of your skin. The sun’s rays can break down collagen and elastin fibers, which are responsible for keeping the skin firm and supple. Over time, this can lead to sagging skin, loss of elasticity, and an overall aged appearance. By using sun protection, you can help preserve the youthful appearance of your skin.

Preventing Sunburn: Sunburn is not just uncomfortable; it’s a visible sign of skin damage. Sunburn occurs when the skin’s defenses are overwhelmed by UV rays. It can lead to pain, redness, swelling, and even blistering. Repeated sunburns can increase the risk of skin cancer, making prevention through sun protection crucial.

Setting an Example: Practicing sun protection sets a positive example for others, especially children. By prioritizing sun safety, you demonstrate the importance of caring for your skin and overall health. This can have a lasting impact on those around you, encouraging healthy habits from an early age.

Promoting Overall Wellness: Your skin is the body’s largest organ, and its health is closely connected to your overall well-being. Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays not only safeguards your skin but also contributes to your general health. Healthy skin is better equipped to serve as a protective barrier against infections and environmental stressors.

It’s important to use sun protection products regularly, especially when spending time outdoors or engaging in activities under the sun. Sunscreen helps reduce the risk of sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer caused by harmful UV rays. Is this product a bit pricey? Yes but it also delivers. I have tried almost any sunscreen on the market and it is always the same procedure – messy, sticky, never-ending process of constant re-application. You don’t need that with Sun Bum. It will last and it will not wash away. And the best part – this company is local from Florida and their products are vegan, gluten free and Hawaii reef compliant, means they are not only good for you but good for the marine environment and wont harm fish. So next time you are heading to the beach, grab one of these.
